LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — With some of the coldest temperatures on record headed toward Northeast Mississippi, pet owners need to take extra steps to make sure their animals are inside or have a warm place to stay.
But one Lowndes County group has some extra large “pets” to worry about.
Workers and volunteers at Cedar Hill Animal Sanctuary have been adding extra hay and other warm materials to the huts for their lions, cougars and bob cats. And they’ll keep an extra eye out on them to make sure they are kleeping warm.
Meanwhile, the sanctuary’s tigers are a different story.
“Tigers, they really prefer the cold weather. They are from areas that they are used to the snow and ice. So in the winter time, we don’t really have to worry too much about the tigers. They go swimming at 5 in the morning; they don’t really care at all,” explained exotic animal caretaker Michelle Potter.
The tigers are native to Siberia, Russia and the mountains of Asia.
