Saltillo Police Investigating Monday Death
by NEMS Daily Journal
Saltillo Police Chief Steve Brooks said his department is investigating a man’s death Monday in the Lee County town.
Brooks said his officers arrived around 4:30 p.m. at 147 Pinewood Street in Saltillo. A man told officers at the scene he had been assaulted and later died, according to Brooks. The preliminary investigation shows a long standing dispute between two parties may have led to the death, but it is still under investigation.
A person of interest, who is also a male, is in custody, but no charges have been filed, Brooks said. The body of the person who died at the scene has been sent to Jackson for an autopsy.
Brooks said once a cause of death is established and Saltillo police have a chance to question the person of interest more information will be released.
