HATLEY, Miss. (WCBI)-Members of the Hatley community laced up their running shoes for a good cause this morning.
A 5k was put together for 6 year old Mason Miller, who is battling leukemia. All proceeds from the race go straight to Mason and his family to help fund travel expenses for weekly trips to St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis and doctor bills. Mason has been getting treatments since 2011 and must continue until the end of 2013. Mason’s mother says the treatments can be tough on her son at times, but tries to see the bright side.
“He gets methotrexate once a week and he will get that for 61 more weeks and then every four weeks he will get vincristine, which is a stronger dose of chemo and sometimes it can cause severe pain, but he only gets that once a month so its not so bad,” says Cindy Miller.
The Miller family would like to thank all those who came out to support them.
