TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The Northern District Public Service Commissioner says robocall firms have agreed to settlements over “no call violations.”
A lawsuit filed in U S District for the Southern District of Florida alleged millions of dollars in violations of the federal Telemarketing and Consumer Fraud and Abuse Prevention Act.
Commissioner Brandon Presley says the firms were calling people, asking them to take part in a political survey, then pitching cruise line vacations and other products, in violation of the law.
“What we wanted to highlight and one of the reasons for the suit is to work across state lines, these calls not only happened in Mississippi, they happened throughout the country and anytime we can use resources throughout the nation to stop people who are invading the privacy of Mississippians, we want to do it,” said Presley.
The Mississippi Public Service Commission also worked with Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood and the Federal Trade Commission, along with other states, to bring the lawsuit.
