Rising River Water Causing Rescues

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – High river levels were the cause of several rescues on Sunday.

People were trapped inside homes along the river, causing multiple rescues in Columbus.

First responders used boats to go door-to-door along Nash Road, Hummingbird Lane and along Wilkins Wise Road near Columbus Lake.

Many roads in the area are also flooded.

“My advice to the people of Columbus is you don’t need to be out tonight. There are not enough barricades to man all the dangerous intersections. Those unaware may cause more trouble. If you don’t have to be in the affected areas, please stay home, use caution, use discretion. Emergency responders would appreciate it,” says Columbus Fire and Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Duane Hughes.

More barricades and equipment will arrive on Monday.
