Ripley Sets Liquor Vote

RIPLEY, Miss. (AP) – Voters in Ripley will vote Aug. 13 on whether to legalize the sale of liquor, beer and light wine within the town limits.

The city board set the date for the election this week after about 800 of the city’s 3,800 registered voters petitioned for it.

Alcohol is available for sale in areas within 20 minutes of Ripley, including New Albany and Middleton, Tenn.

Several areas in northeast Mississippi have approved liquor sales recently.

New Albany and Corinth have voted in liquor. Tishomingo County also approved liquor sales.

State law now allows city-only votes on liquor. Previously, all liquor votes in Mississippi have been county-wide, even though liquor and wine can be sold only within municipal boundaries.
