COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- Many people are in a good mood these days, and not just because it’s labor day weekend, but also because gas prices are finally back down.
We all used to dread going to the gas station to fill up our vehicle, but not anymore. Customers are all smiles at the gas pumps as they travel this Labor day Weekend, and with gas being under 2 dollars, who wouldn’t be.
“It’s a blessing that gas went down finally, cause we sholl needed it. As much riding and everything to work that people be doing, it’s a blessing to go down,” Vincent Dismuke said.
And for drivers who like to travel, they are in luck.
“It can’t get no better timing than this right here,” Dismuke said.
“Well with Labor Day, it’s easier to travel. You can go farther distance and stuff like that, on a small budget, it doesn’t take very much to travel, so it’s a good time to travel while it’s low like that,” Patrick Cox said.
Gas prices are the lowest they have been in ten years, and by the time labor day weekend is over, motorists will have saved a total of one point four billion dollars over the four day weekend. Between saving money and low prices, drivers are defianelty happy about having a little extra in their wallets.
“I have a sister whose traveling from Jackson, that’s less money coming out of my pockets and my mom pockets to get her back home,” Dismuke said.
And for store owners, the low gas prices, continue to drive in more customers, which means more money is going into their register.
“Oh we’ve been booming, especially with the gas prices and stuff, we’ve been very steady, and plus MSU played this weekend, so we’ve been really busy,” Shell’s cashier Anissa Wright said.
Over 35 million people are traveling over the weekend, taking advantage of the low cost in gas, and everyone is hoping the prices can remain this way.
“It’s really a blessing that it’s back down like this. It’s been some years since it’s been this low, and as a church man, I’m praying right now because I love these low prices,” Cox said.
If you’re in the Lowndes County area and looking to fill up your tank Kroger, Walmart, Sprint Mart, Tina Watkins, and Murphy USA all have the lowest gas prices here in Columbus.
