Video: Resort Status Effort Nixed in Houlka
[bitsontherun IFx8c225]HOULKA, Miss. (WCBI) — The idea of getting resort status to Houlka has died almost as fast as it got started.
This fall, a group of business owners started a drive to get the Legislature to pass a special law granting the town of 626 residents resort status.
They hoped that eventually lead to the sale of alcohol to help the Chickasaw County town take advantage of tourists visiting nearby Davis Lake and using the new Tanglefoot trail.
But roadblocks with state law and local opposition prompted Houlka aldermen to drop the the idea because it likely wouldn’t happen.
