Reports Of Clown Sightings In Columbus & Lowndes County
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus police confirm officers received separate three reports of a clown walking down Gaylane Drive this past Tuesday.
Social media has been abuzz after people complained that folks dressed up as clowns tried to lure children in the woods in South Carolina.
CPD Spokesman Joe Dillon says the person dressed in the costume reportedly did not approach anyone or go on private property.
Officers patrolled the area but did not spot anyone dressed in a clown costume.
One person posted a picture of someone dressed as a clown, reportedly on Gaylane Drive.
Dillon says pranksters to need to know there are some serious safety concerns that someone could be hurt if they dress as a clown.
The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office also confirms people have called deputies about possible clown sightings and harrassment on social media.
One person has been ticketed for filing a false report.
Oktibbeha County deputies, Starkville police and Amory police have all released statements saying reports of clown sightings in their areas have not been verified and appear to be a hoax.
Arrests in connection with clown sightings have also been made in Alabama.
