Rep. Steve Holland Honored By Regional Rehabilitation Center

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A Mississippi lawmaker,  businessman and civic leader is being honored for his work with a non profit that helps people with disabling conditions.

Representative Steve Holland has been to more awards dinners than he can count in his long career. But this one, at Tupelo’s Summit Center, is extra special.

“Want to basically say, aw shucks,” Holland said.

The lifelong Lee County resident is this year’s recipient of the “Red Rasberry Humanitarian Award.”  It is given by the Regional Rehabilitation Center, to someone who has promoted and championed the services of the non profit.

Current Executive Director Robby Parman says Holland was this year’s clear choice.

“The way he goes out and talks about the rehab center and services we offer in the community, you can’t put a price tag on it, he has always sung our praises and has always been behind the scenes helping people, either by telling them about the services the rehab center does for people, or helping find funds that might be able to help the rehab center one day,” Parman said.

In fact, the dinner is also a fundraiser for the Regional Rehab Center.  Last year, more than 1,100  clients were served, free of charge, at the RRC.    A majority of those were children and Holland says that makes this honor even more special and encourages him to press on.

“I’ve had a lot of health issues, but I’m back on my feet, I’m thriving, I may even be at the top of my game, so no I’m not going anywhere,” Holland said.

Holland serves as board president at the Regional Rehab Center.
