“Recommended” Boil Water Notice For Some East Lowndes Residents

LOWNDES CO., Miss. (WCBI) – A recommended boil water notice was issued electronically to some customers of East Lowndes Water Association on Saturday night.

A spokesperson for ELWA tells WCBI that there was an electronic issue with a reading on one of the tanks, which indicated a drop in pressure.

It affects those living in higher elevations in the Mount Zion area of New Hope.

Samples were taken this morning and delivered to a testing lab. We’re told they hope to have the testing completed by Tuesday or Wednesday.

In the meantime, as a precaution, some residents in that Mount Zion area should have received an electronic recommendation to boil their water before use for consumption to be on the safe side.

The spokesman could not provide specific areas that had gotten the recommended boil water notice when we inquired.

We were told in a phone conversation that “if you didn’t receive an immediate notification, there is nothing to be concerned about.” We were also told that affected customers would receive another notification letting them know the recommended boil water notice had been lifted.

According to the ELWA spokesperson, approximately 1,184 people are under this recommended notice.
