Rebuilding lives: Some residents can return home post-tornado
The group Monroe Strong is helping provide beds, couches, dining room tables and other basics for residents
AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – It was a big day for some residents of an Amory apartment complex who have been displaced since the March tornado.
Christina Beeks was excited about this move.
It was seven months and one day ago when a tornado hit Moore Manor Apartments, displacing Beeks and all other residents. Crews have been working to get all units repaired and upgraded. Now, 14 tenants are moving back in.
“It feels great, a blessing. I just thank God we are still living. And He also blessed us with furniture. The whole apartment is filled with furniture,” Beeks said.
Monroe Strong was formed this summer, to help those impacted by the tornado. Through their efforts, all 14 units have new couches, beds, and dining room tables.
“We had an organization to donate funds for furniture. Gleaning for the World donated with Best Bargain Furniture here in Amory. We got everything at a cost to get more bang for the buck,” said Lindsay Mitchell, of Monroe Strong.
14 tenants moving back in is a great start. But as more apartments are finished being remodeled, Monroe Strong will need more people to step up and make sure those residents have couches, beds, and basic necessities.
“We need either monetary donations, sheets, towels pillows, sofas, beds, dressers, everything, pots, pans, dishes, anything people need at a personal level. That ‘s what we need,” Mitchell said.
Monroe Strong will make sure the donated funds and items help survivors, like Beeks.
“God is good,” Beeks said.
