MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) -A new organization has been created to connect law enforcement and Monroe County senior citizens.
The Seniors and Law Enforcement Together or SALT Council met on Wednesday to speak with seniors about crime related issues such as scams and programs that will benefit the county’s oldest residents.
Officers and deputies from every agency in Monroe County will participate.
“Well, you know our seniors in so many cases are left out. What we want to do is bring them in as an extend family of the sheriff’s department, but at the same time let those folks know that there are programs out there to help them,” said Sheriff Cecil Cantrell.
SALT Council meetings are open to the public. For more information, please contact the Monroe County Sheriffs Department.
