Prosecutors File Evidence Notice In Alabama Speaker Hubbard Case

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – State prosecutors have indicated that they plan to bring up other accusations against Speaker Mike Hubbard during his ethics trial next month.

Prosecutors in a Friday motion wrote that they plan to introduce evidence at trial that Hubbard, among other things, misrepresented advice he got from the ethics commission and had an agreement with lobbyists to receive things of value in exchange for action on legislation.

Court rules allow prosecutors to bring in evidence about other acts – even if it is not part of the charges- to try to illustrate a defendant’s motive or pattern of behavior.

The Republican speaker is accused of using his public offices to benefit his businesses and clients.

Hubbard has maintained his innocence.

He is scheduled to go to trial next month.
