Prisoners Arrive Next Month at New Prison

ALICEVILLE, ALA. (wcbi) — The new federal women’s prison in Aliceville is a month from taking its first inmates.
Most of the 350 employees have been hired and the new warden is in place. Staffers have been brought in from other federal facilities to train the new correctional officers, who make an average of $30-35,000 s a year.
The $250 million facility includes 1,500 medium security beds and a 256-bed minimum security work camp.
Construction was completed this spring after more than three years.
The first prisoners are expected to arrive Nov. 16.
The prison is located about five miles north of Aliceville and 28 miles south of Columbus, Miss.
