Preparing For Game Day
STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Mississippi State University is already gearing up for its first home game of the season and already folks are coming onto campus. There is a lot of work behind the scenes that goes into getting the campus ready for action.
Assistant Athletic Director of Event Management Brent Frey has been planning for the big weekend since the end of the season last year. He and and a panel of workers discuss what worked and what didn’t so the can make improvements for the following season. It takes more than a little planning to ensure everything goes off with out a hitch.
“We coordinate game day parking, tailgating areas for the university, we coordinate all the security, ticket takers, ushers and emergency personnel.”
Traffic and congestion is the biggest problem they face. With over 50 thousand football fans expected to crowd MSU campus Saturday logistics can be a nightmare.
Frey says, “If we can get our fans to get here early get set up and help us with traffic.”
With fresh paint on the field students can hardly wait for all the tailgate action. Some set up early just to get the perfect party spot.
MSU Freshman Jackson Mashburn sasy, “7a.m. I’m pretty excited football is back. I get to sit in the student section now. You have to get the best spot you can.”
MSU Junior Jordan Townsend, “I’ve been to a couple of these before. I’m most excited about the new season just getting it kicked off and hopefully going to have a good year.”
Wether you’re a fan of the home of visiting team a lot goes into making the experience a joy for everyone involved.
According to MSU Sophomore Alex Bardos, “I absolutely love the hash tag Hail State’s in the endzone. Everything looks great. We’re excited about the stadium expansion. They couldn’t have done a better job.”
