Pontotoc Park Receives Overhaul

PONTOTOC, Miss. (WCBI) – Thanks to the efforts of Toyota Employees, a Pontotoc city park is more public friendly. 600Toyota team members gathered at Howard Stafford Park Saturday morning. They came to volunteer for National Public Lands Day, as a way for Toyota employees to give something back to the community.

Masa Hamaguchi with Toyaota says,  “Not only we building cars but also we need to show our appreciation to this area. I hope that team can show good performance to contribute to this community.”

The Toyota team members did a number of projects including planting shurbs, landscaping the children’s play area, and putting in a new walking track. Dana Walls of Houlka paints cars for Toyota, so painting this dock was a perfect job for her.

According to Toyota employee Dana Walls “Toyota is just a wonderful to work and it’s a great group of people. And I just enjoy being around everybody and this is a great opportunity to improve the community.”

Toyota employee David Boren says,  “This is really great out here to get out doors and help with the community out here in Mississippi and especially Pontotoc and the weather is beautiful out here today and it’s great to give back to the community.”

Not only was this event a great way for the employees of Toyota to give something back to the local community, it also meant the city of Pontotoc didn’t have to hire somebody to do this very important renovation work.

Terry Farr with Pontotoc Parks says,  “I know just with the stuff that we brought in so far right now, it’s been roughly around $20,000.  Toyota has really helped. They have brought in supplies to help with this cost too so yep really have helped.”

Farr wants not only residents of Pontotoc, but families from all over Northeast Mississippi to come and enjoy the renovated park.
