PONTOTOC, Miss. (AP) — Pontotoc County Sheriff Leo Mask is reported in good condition Monday after suffering a heart attack over the weekend.
Chief Deputy Randy Roberts says Mask is alert, responding to doctors and doing well following surgery at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Multiple media reports are that two stents were put in Mask’s heart after he complained of chest pain early Saturday morning.
Mask is in his third term as Pontotoc County Sheriff. He was first elected in 1999 and was re-elected in 2003. He lost a close race in 2007 to Neal Davis.
Mask was named police chief of Verona in September 2008 but ran for Pontotoc sheriff in 2011, defeating Davis.
Mask also served three terms as constable in Pontotoc County before becoming sheriff.
