Police investigate a shooting at prom party in Columbus

Columbus police are investigating an after-prom party shooting

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus police continue to investigate an after-prom party shooting this past weekend.

The gunfire broke out Saturday night at the Columbus fairgrounds off Highway 69.

No one was hurt, but three vehicles were hit by bullets.

Police say there was a crowd when the shots were fired.

The event was a private rental, not school-sponsored.

There was security outside the event and parental supervision inside.

Chief Daughtry said when he arrived on the scene, the fear in the eyes of parents and kids was concerning.

He also said the shooting may have started because of a rap song.

“What we do know is some type of song was played, some type of diss song, and it erupted the emotions of both sides, and they decided to go ahead and start shooting at each other. So, you had two different groups shooting at each other from both sides,” said Daughtry.

No arrests have been made.

CPD is aggressively looking for the suspects…
