TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — A Tupelo man will be sentenced next week for DUI death following his guilty plea this morning.
28-year-old John Gillentine admitted this morning he ran over retired teacher Betty Montgomery as she was walking along a Tupelo street back in August 2013.
Following the plea, Judge Jim Pounds ordered Gillentine to be taken into custody, pending his sentencing.
The district attorney has recommended a 10-year term for Gillentine but Pounds could sentence him up to the maximum of 25 years for DUI death.
Sentencing is set for Oct. 9.
