Video: Peanut Trucker Arrested After Lowndes Pursuit, Marijuana Found
PICKENS COUNTY, Ala. (WCBI) – Another below the speed limit pursuit and another drug bust by Lowndes County deputies, in just two days.
Now, a Belzoni truck driver is facing some serious charges.
A deputy attempted to pull over Telvin Washington, 28, near the 18th Avenue exit on Highway 82, in Columbus.
The 18-wheeler finally stopped three miles across the state line, in Alabama, about 12:30 PM on Thursday.
A deputy attempted to pull the big rig over for a traffic violation.
Lowndes County Chief Deputy Marc Miley says Washington was hauling 76,000 lbs of peanuts.
The big rig is owned by H and M trucking in Indianola, MS.
A Lowndes County K9 was brought in and found marijuana.
Washington is charged with possession of a controlled substance, felony possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence, and failure to yield to blue lights.
Pickens County deputies and Reform police assisted in the stop.
A Lowndes County man was arrested after a slow-speed pursuit on Wednesday that ended in the Cracker Barrel parking lot. Lee Taylor Hill, 36, is facing charges in connection with that chase.
