Tupelo, Mississippi (WCBI) – Students at Parkway Elementary in Tupelo were able to meet a superhero Monday, who has a green message.
The “Parkway Goes Green” campaign kicked off with an outdoor assembly, featuring “Michael Recycle.” He teaches kids and adults about the benefits of protecting the environment.
It all began with a parent’s idea, as she walked through nearby Ballard Park and noticed trash that needed to be picked up.
After the assembly, some students were able to do their part and help clean part of the park.
“We’re teaching about citizenship, also teaching about science and the environment and taking care of our community,” added Principal Mitzi Moore.
“Parkway Goes Green” is a yearlong initiative that will culminate with an event on Earth Day in April.
