Oxford Pilot Makes Emergency Landing

WILMINGTON, Ohio (AP) – The State Highway Patrol says a Mississippi pilot safely made an emergency landing in a southwest Ohio field after his small plane had engine trouble.

Troopers say the 1967 Beechcraft Bonanza landed in a plowed field just before noon Wednesday near Wilmington, about 45 miles northeast of Cincinnati. The pilot walked away from the crash uninjured. The plane and the property weren’t damaged.

Authorities say 57-year-old Douglas Alexander of Oxford, Miss., was headed to Columbus when a cylinder failed in the engine, causing power loss. He alerted Port Columbus International Airport that he was forced into an emergency landing.

Troopers say the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate what happened.
