Oxford lawyer suspended for three years

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – An Oxford lawyer was suspended for three years by the Mississippi Supreme Court.

Merry Caitlin Johnson was disciplined for not being accurate on her bar application when she did not disclose an incident which happened while she was a paralegal.

During that role, Johnson misinterpreted a judges order and gave her boss incorrect information. In an effort to cover that up, Johnson created a fake judges order which was ultimately used in legal proceedings.

The judge whose name was forged ultimately found out about the fake document and Johnson’s employer was sanctioned. Johnson did not disclose any of this on her bar application.

A bar tribunal had ordered a reprimand for Johnson but the justices said her action needed the harsher punishment of a suspension.
