Ole Miss Women’s Soccer Breaks into National Rankings
OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI/Ole Miss Athletics) – The Rebels added to the teams in the national rankings this week when Ole Miss (8-1-1, 1-0-0) found itself ranked No. 24 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America on Tuesday when the organization released its weekly poll.
Ole Miss is coming off a weekend sweep that saw the Rebels open Southeastern Conference play on the road with a 2-1 win at Arkansas and a home win over UALR to close out the non-conference slate for 2013.
“At the midway point of the season it is certainly nice to be recognized in the national rankings,” said Ole Miss head coach Matt Mott. “With six of our first 10 games on the road, it really speaks to the resiliency and character of the team we are putting on the field. We’re looking forward to taking the field again this weekend against one of the top teams in the country in Florida and an always dangerous Auburn team.”
The Rebels will take on the seventh-ranked Florida Gators at 7 p.m. on Friday before hosting the Auburn Tigers at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Admission to all matches at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium is free to the public.
Friday night’s contest against the Gators will feature a “Red Out” with replica jersey t-shirts being given out to the first 300 fans in attendance. Sunday’s game against the Tigers will be “Kid’s Day” at the stadium. Fans can also add to their Rebel Rewards total for attending the match and gain entry into the “5 of 10” promotion to win a Rebel Soccer scarf for attending at least five of the Rebels’ 10 home matches this season.
