NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (WCBI/Ole Miss Athletics) – Ole Miss senior linebacker D.T. Shackelford has been named to the watch list for the 2013 Lott IMPACT Trophy, announced today at a luncheon at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach.

(Ole Miss Athletics)
Linebacker D.T. Shackelford was named to the 2013 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List on Thursday.

Shackelford is one of 42 student-athletes from 37 different colleges around the country on the watch list who have made the biggest IMPACT on their teams both on and off the field.  IMPACT stands for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.

A vocal team leader, Shackelford will make his return to the playing field this fall after missing the last two years with knee injuries. On the field, he recorded 68 tackles, 11.0 TFLs, 5.0 sacks, three fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and an interception in 23 games played as a freshman and sophomore. He was a 2009 SEC All-Freshman pick and the 2011 Chucky Mullins Courage Award winner.

A native of Decatur, Ala., Shackelford graduated in three years with a bachelor’s degree in history and a minor in English and is expected to complete his master’s degree in education in 2014. He is a four-time selection to the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Shackelford has also participated in community activities such as Relay for Life, the Oxford Food Pantry and a dunking booth that raised funds for cancer patients. He spent his 2013 spring break on a mission trip to Panama and his 2011 summer as a pre-college program counselor at Ole Miss.

Voting for the award is held throughout the season by a National Voter Panel of former college coaches and players, select members of the media, past winners of the award and the Board of Directors of the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, the sponsors of the award.

There are 20 linebackers, 14 defensive backs and eight defensive linemen on the list.

The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation also announced charity donations of $25,000 which brought their total donations in nine years to over $1 million.

The 10th annual Lott IMPACT Trophy Black-Tie Awards Banquet will be Dec. 8 at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach.
