Ole Miss Baseball Drops Game Two At Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. (Ole Miss Athletics) – The Ole Miss baseball team suffered an 18-1 setback to No. 14 Missouri Saturday afternoon, May 2, at Taylor Stadium. The Tigers (28-19, 14-9 SEC) hit five home runs to help hand the Rebels (24-24, 10-13 SEC) their second loss in as many days.

Seven different Rebels recorded a hit on the afternoon, led by a 2-for-2 performance from Nic Perkins. Perkins, a St. Charles, Missouri native, smacked two singles in a return to his home state, recording the first multi-hit game of his career. Sophomore Henri Lartigue also came off the bench to add a RBI single, scoring freshman Kyle Watson.

On the mound, Ole Miss starting pitcher Brady Bramlett (5-3) took the loss in a rare rough outing for the redshirt sophomore.

For Missouri, starting pitcher Tanner Houck (7-3) went six innings without allowing a run. Mizzou had 16 hits throughout the contest by nine different Tigers. Shortstop Ryan Howard went 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBI, while Josh Lester knocked in a team-high four runs.

Mizzou got to Bramlett early in the ballgame, scoring four runs in the first two innings. A walk, base hit, and sacrifice fly led to the game’s first run before right fielder Trey Harris barely cleared the fence in right for a two-run homer. The Tigers added another run in the second courtesy of a ground-rule double and single to left, giving them a 4-0 advantage.

The Tigers put up a five-spot in the fifth with three of the runs coming courtesy of the long ball. Drake Robison entered the game and, after allowing a walk, recorded back-to-back outs to end the inning. Mizzou continued the momentum into the sixth with a big offensive inning to add to its lead.

In the ninth, Watson beat out a groundball with two outs for an infield single. After advancing to second on a wild pitch, the freshman scored on a single to left by Lartigue. Perkins kept the game going with his second hit of the game in as many at-bats.

Ole Miss will face the Tigers one last time tomorrow, May 3. The game will be the final SEC road game for the Rebels. Fans can watch on SEC Network+ or listen to the call on the airwaves of the Ole Miss Radio Network. First pitch from Taylor Stadium is slated for 1:00 p.m. CT.
