Old Cell Phones Sought for Elderly
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Those unused cell phones lying around in drawers and closets at home could help save an elderly person’s life.
The Columbus Police Department is collecting old cell phones and chargers to give to the elderly to give them constant access to dial 911 in case of emergencies.
While old cell phones may no longer be attached to a network, they still can call 911.
Police find that many elderly either don’t have phone service or can’t reach a phone in case of a fall. The cell phones would solve that problem.
To help, just drop old phones off in the lobby of WCBI in downtown Columbus.
