OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A happy ending to a terrifying situation for one Oktibbeha County family. An elderly woman is missing for over 24 hours but today she was found alive and well.
“Ms. Lena? She said “yes.” Then he said, “Do you know everyone’s looking for you? and she said, “For what?,” says daughter Sandra Gibson, who is all smiles after her 83-year-old mother was found safe Wednesday afternoon after being missing overnight.
“One of my deputies was checking some property north of her house and happened to see some tracks, followed the tracks, and found Ms. Lena next to a creek down there. She appeared to be in good shape and good health,” says Oktibbeha County Sheriff Steve Gladney.
Harrell was taken to OCH Regional Medical Center for medical observation and was released hours later.
“She’s just resting right now because she was up all night but she’s doing fine. We just got her to rest and settle down and be calm. She’s glad to be in her own house, in her own bed,” says Gibson.
The Harrell family says they’re grateful for the volunteers and law enforcement agencies that brought their mother home safely.
“For them to team up the way that they did and the community that pulled together was great. Wonderful. I saw something. If you want to see the work of the Lord. Miracle. It was a miracle. For her to be gone 24 hours and come home safe,” says Son Andre Harrell.
Harrell’s family plans to have 24 hour care for her and she’ll be wearing an ID wrist band that will alert them if she wanders away again.
Harrell had been last seen at about 11 a.m. Tuesday at her home in the Osborne community about two miles from East Oktibbeha Elementary. She was found about 2 p.m. Wednesday about a mile and a half from her home.
