Off-Duty Winston Correctional Officer Stabbed

Jermaine Jackson

WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A man is in custody after an off-duty Winston-Choctaw County Regional Correctional Facility officer was stabbed.

Jermaine Jackson is charged with aggravated assault.

As of Monday, Jackson’s bond had not been set.

Winston County Sheriff Jason Pugh says Jackson turned himself in yesterday afternoon.

Pugh tells WCBI the correctional officer was working security at a nightclub on Goss Road.

When the club was closing, just after 1 AM Sunday, there was an argument between a man and a woman.

The victim stepped in and was cut on the face and neck by the woman’s brother.

“Basically, we had a correctional officer and these guys don’t make a terrible amount of money. He was up there moonlighting on a second job to try to make extra money, and it’s really sad to see somebody that’s out trying to make a little extra money for their family, like that, hurt this bad,” said Pugh.

The victim is in ICU at a Jackson hospital.
