OCH celebrates organ donors at balloon launch

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – OCH Regional Medical Center celebrates those who choose to give the ultimate gift: the gift of life.

The hospital held a balloon launch and ceremony this morning in recognition of National Donate Life Month.

Representatives from the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency were there to honor organ and tissue donors and transplant recipients.

The mother of a heart recipient says the gift gave her son a second chance.

“It’s very overwhelming, you know, to think about the decision that a family made in their worst moments and it was a decision that we were praying for and hoping for for a very long time so we could go home, you know,” says Lindy Oswalt. “And until that call came, we didn’t know if we would ever get to go home again, you know, with him alive and in the car with us driving home.”

People who attended today’s event were able to register as donors.

National Donate Life Month has been celebrated since 2003.
