Charles Avon Forrester, 83, of Columbus, MS passed away Sunday, December 24, 2023, at Noland Hospital- DCH in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 28, 2023, from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS.  Service will be Thursday, December 28, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS with Bro. Mike Dalton officiating and Mr. Ray Crane assisting. Interment will be at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing.

Mr. Forrester was born June 17, 1940, in Columbus, MS.  Mr. Forrester was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who lived his life for Christ and to make his family smile.  Mr. Forrester was Baptist Faith and was a faithful member of McBee Baptist Church and also was a deacon.  Mr. Forrester was a truck driver for many years and also was a veteran. Mr. Forrester is preceded in death by his parents Dora Marie Webb Forrester, Bennie Wilford Forrester, and Ola Mae Sansing Forrester.

Mr.Forrester is survived by his wife – Betty Enlow Forrester; son- Ricky Forrester; daughter- Tammy Frasher; grandchildren- Brandon (Kristen) Forrester, Adam (Monica) Forrester, Mallory Forrester, Layton Forrester, Tori Frasher, and Teri (Josh) Vandiver; great-grandchildren- Ty Forrester, Lilly Forrester, Avery Forrester, Asher Forrester, Aiden Forrester, Cooper Vandiver, Charlie Vandiver, and Clay Vandiver; brothers- Doug (Shirley) Forrester, and Larry (Sonja) Forrester; sister- Faye Bush.

James Douglas Reeves, 68, of Columbus, MS, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital- Golden Triangle in Columbus, MS.

Visitation will be Friday, December 22, 2023, from 3:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS.

Mr. Reeves was born November 3, 1955, in West Point, MS to the late James Tilton Reeves and Nelorue Cox Reeves. He worked in construction as a foreman for many years. Mr. Reeves was a Veteran of the US Marines and retired as a Combat Engineer Captain.

Mr. Reeves is survived by his wife- Anita Hall Reeves; sons- James Derek (Michelle) Reeves, John David Reeves, and Jacob Daniel Reeves; brother- Terry (Teresa) Reeves; and 8 grandchildren.

Mrs. Robertson was born on November 19, 1948, in Columbus, MS, to the late Edora Wooten Bradley and Edward Lee Bradley, Sr. Mrs. Robertson was a beautician for many years. She loved her dog Ladybug and she loved spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Robertson is preceded in death by her daughter- Kimber Lee Honeycutt; brother- Edward Lee Bradley, Jr., and Evelyn Rast.

Mrs. Robertson is survived by her husband- Cecil Lamar Robertson; son- Jimmy (Laura) Honeycutt; daughter- Kristy (Larry) Swearingen; grandchildren- Jonathan (Chloe) Rowe; Kayla Rowe; stepdaughter- Robbye McCoy; and step son- Kevin (Lynn) Robertson.

Evelyn Diane Rast 58, of Columbus, MS passed away Monday, December 11, 2023, at her residence.

Ms. Rast was born December 19, 1964, in Columbus, MS. Ms. Rast loved taking care of her flowers, loved her dog Blazer, and loved spending time with her grandchildren.  Ms. Rast is preceded in death by her parents- Edward and Ida Edora Bradley and brother- Edward Bradley, Jr.

Elsie M. Brownlee, 94, of Columbus, MS passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at her residence.

Mrs. Brownlee was born on August 24, 1929, to the late Rosie Nell Harcrow McDaniel and Wilburn Henry McDaniel. Mrs. Brownlee was a homemaker. She was a God fearing woman, who was a lifelong active member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church in McShan, Alabama. Mrs. Brownlee was an expert seamstress, loved reading, gardening, and loved spending time with her family and church family. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brownlee is preceded in death by her husband- Henry Clay Brownlee, Sr.; sons- Henry Clay Brownlee, Jr., and Daniel Elias Brownlee; brothers- Henry Oneal McDaniel, Herbert McDaniel, Harrell McDaniel, and Jerry McDaniel; sister – Ann McDaniel.

Mrs. Brownlee is survived by daughter-Gail (Robert Sieffert) Brownlee, daughter-in-laws- Melinda Brownlee, and Phyllis Brownlee; grandchildren- – Kristopher Clay Brownlee, Ashley Nichole (Christopher) Hall, and Magen Danielle (Christopher) Page, great grandchildren- Azriella Hall and  Adeline Hall; brother- Bobby McDaniel and John E. Wanda Elaine Hoopes, 87, of Columbus, MS, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Montgomery Gardens Assisted Living in Starkville, MS.

Mrs. Hoopes was born on February 19, 1936, in Carlisle, AR to the late James Alfred Nichols and Clara Handy Nichols. She was a teacher for 35 years and taught at many schools. Mrs. Hoopes was a devout Catholic and attended Annunciation Church.  She enjoyed painting, needlework, reading, coloring, and going to thrift and antique stores. Mrs. Hoopes loved her dogs- Emma, Cootie, and Prissy. Mrs. Hoopes was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hoopes was preceded in death by her husband- James Hoopes; sons- Jon Michael Hoyt, and William Edward Hoyt; grandmother- Arkie Hicks, and brothers- Jimmy Nichols, and Roger Nichols.

Mrs. Hoopes is survived by her daughters- Theresa (Dale) Pendley, Barbara (Jeff) Hoopes, and Ellen (Shannon) Bowles; grandchildren- Richard (Erin) Ammerman, Valerie Hoopes, Angela Collins, Drew Hoyt, and Russell Pendley, great grandchildren- Austin James Collins, and Michael Collins; and her sister- Judy Morris.

Mr. Cantrell was born August 1, 1966, in Columbus, MS to Helen Faye Cantrell and the late YZ Cantrell. Mr. Cantrell worked as a machinist for many years. Mr. Cantrell had two dogs that he loved very much- Meathead and Daisy. In addition to his father, Mr. Cantrell is preceded in death by his grandparents – Buster and Adelle Merchant as well as Morris and Lizzie Cantrell; brother- Earnest Cantrell; sisters- Carlene Cantrell, and Shelia Cantrell.

Harold Edwin Barton, 85, of Columbus, MS. passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at his residence.

Mr. Barton was born November 6, 1938, to the late Walter E. Barton, and Nellie Harrell Barton. Mr. Barton attended school at Pleasant Hill in Vernon, Alabama and New Hope School. He worked for 2 years in Mollina, Illinois then 9-1/2 years at MUW, and then retired from General Tire after 30 years. Barton was a race promoter at Columbus Speedway for 5 years in Columbus, MS. He attended dirt races throughout the southeast. Mr. Barton loved to cut his yard, loved growing tomatoes, and loved traveling to country and gospel concerts and cruises to Niagara Falls, and Canada and Grand Canyon and the TN Mountains.   He also loved the supper clubs, the Junction, Tags, Gatlinburg, Branson, and Longview Opry. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barton is preceded in death by his wife- Shirley Moore Barton and step son – D.J. Jennings.

Mr. Barton is survived by his loving wife of 13 years- Olive Anne Barton; son- Michael Edwin (Cheriee) Barton; daughter- Cindy (Daniel) Westmoreland; step daughter- Lisa Ulmer; brother- Eddie (Judy) Barton, grandchildren- Alan Smith, Amanda Prince, Haley (josh) Reynolds, Joanna (Preston) Hall, Summer (Noah Shackelford) Barton, Alaina (John) Gilbert; great grandchildren-Ivy Reynolds, Sutton Reynolds, Briar Shackelford, Wyatt Gilbert; nephew- Joey Barton, and James “ Scooter” Barton.

James Larry Porter, 65, of Columbus, MS, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. Porter was born on July 4, 1958, in Columbus, MS, to the late James Harry Porter and Jewel Howard Porter. Mr. Porter worked at Valmet as an IT for many years in Columbus, MS. He was a member of the State Line Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, finance chairman, and sound and media director. Mr. Porter was a loving husband for 17 years to his wife, Wendy. He also loved his puppies Foxy and Buddy. Mr. Porter retired from the US Army National Guard as Sergeant First Class.

SFC Porter was instrumental in developing the Automation NCO Course and being the primary instructor for the first and second sources held at PEC. By working with the RRNCO, ARRNCO, and gathering feedback from RRAC III Automation NCOs, SFS Porter seeks ways to improve the ARISS program for the Strength Maintenance Team. Along with his nationally recognized automation skills, SFC Porter was a master badge RRNCO. The knowledge he attained those 3 years was instrumental in his development of ARISS applications and in assisting new RRNCOs with any questions they may have on recruiting tasks.

Mr. Porter is survived by his wife- Wendy Owens Porter; brother- David (Wendy) Porter; sisters- Martha (Tommy) Augustinowitz, Linda (Larry Wayne) Kee, and Francis Blanton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bobby Bowen, 83, of Ackerman, MS, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at North Mississippi Medical Center, in West Point, MS.

Mr. Bowen was born on November 21, 1940, in Ackerman, MS, to the late J.D. Bowen and Ida Mae Cummings Bowen. He worked in construction for many years as a Brick Mason. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowen is preceded in death by his sons, Jeffie Dewayne Bowen and Bobby Gene Bowen; and daughter, Sandy Atkins.

Anne Earl Stanley Hendrix passed from this life onto her eternal reward on November 24, 2023.

She was born on November 20, 1925 to Perry B. Stanley, Sr and Willie Mae Smith Stanley. She lived her whole life in Columbus, MS except for five years she lived in McAllen, TX. Mrs Hendrix worked at Mission Air Base as an administrative assistant. After returning to Columbus, Mrs Hendrix worked at Columbus AFB  and then Ceco as an erector coordinator for 18 years.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 12:00 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Service will be Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, MS, with Bro. Tommy Gillon officiating. Graveside will follow after service.

Mrs. Hendrix was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joseph A Hendrix, Jr, brother, Perry Stanley, Jr, sisters, Mary Kline, Margaret McReynolds, and Dorothy Cole, granddaughter, Emily Hendrix, and great-grandson, Harrison Hendrix.

Mrs Hendrix was a devoted wife and mother. She loved God, her family, and her friends. She is survived by two sons, Joseph A Hendrix, Jr and Perry Hendrix (Nancy) both of Columbus, MS, grandchildren, Sarah Kate Epperson (Walt) of Midland, TX, John Hendrix (Lindsay) of New Orleans, LA, Abbey Hendrix (Micah Boyd) of Orlando, FL, and Hannah Smith (Carl) of Amory, MS, and great-grandchildren, Tilden Epperson, Emily Epperson, AnnElise Epperson, Henry Smith, Claire Smith, and Jack Hendrix.

Karen Louise Bland Weathers, 67 of Columbus, MS, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2023, at her residence.

Mrs. Weathers was born on Friday, September 17, 1956, in Lowndes County, MS to the late Garvis and Louise Logan Bland. She lived in Columbus, Mississippi, her whole life. Mrs. Weathers worked as a preschool teacher at First Baptist Church. She loved Jesus, her children, and her grandchildren with all her heart. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Weathers is preceded in death by her son- Jeremy Daniel Vandeavender.

Frances Fivecoat Benton, 94, of Columbus, MS passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023, at her residence.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 22, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Steens First Baptist Church, Steens, MS. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Bro. Michael Carney officiating and Bro. Danny Avery assisting. The interment will be in Halbert Family Cemetery, Columbus, MS.

Mrs. Benton was born August 15, 1929, in Houston, TX to the late Ernest and Clara Mae Shaffner Fivecoat. She married the late Walter Bryant Benton, Jr. on December 9, 1955, in Houston, TX. She worked for Biehl and Co. in Houston, TX, and the Social Security Administration in Columbus, MS. She  was a member of Steens First Baptist Church for many years.  Mrs. Benton was a faithful wife to her husband who was a Baptist minister. She was his helpmate through his years of service in addition to teaching Sunday School and serving as Vacation Bible School director for many of those years. Frances shared her beautiful artwork with her family and church family and was known for her murals that were used at VBS. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brother- Ernest “Ernie” Fivecoat, Jr.

Mrs. Benton is survived by her son- Keith (Cindy) Benton; daughters- Ellen (Reese) James, Karen (Mitchell) Thornton, Lynne (Mike) Carney; grandchildren- Bryan (Becca), Justin (Carley), Melissa, Michael (Jana), Kyndal (Justin), Sean, T.J., Matthew (Grace), and Katie; great-grandchildren- Martin, Olivia, Beckett, Tatum, Dani, Bowen, Emma, Patrick, Mary Alice, Betty Brooke, and Blakney.

Mr. Leverette was born August 15, 1990, in West Point, MS,. Mr. Leverette was a Repairman. He always made the most of life and enjoyed every minute of it. He was full of adventure and always along for the ride. Mr. Leverette was an avid golfer, loved playing drums, and loved as hard as he lived.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Bolin is preceded in death by brothers- Junior Bolin, Troy Wilson, Roy Franklin, and Donald Eads.

Kenneth O. Canida, 86, of Columbus, MS, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, GT in Columbus, MS.

Mr. Canida was born April 11, 1937, in Bear Creek, Alabama to the late William A. Canida and Myrtice Goodwin Canida. Mr. Canida was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Columbus, MS. He was a car salesman all his life. Mr. Canida was an Air Force and Army Veteran. In addition to his parents, Mr. Canida is preceded in death by his daughter- Paige Canida, and numerous brothers.

Mr. Canida is survived by his wife of 63 years- Rubye Sanford Canida; daughter- Suzanne (Steve) Daquilla; son- Todd Canida; grandchildren- Ashley (Gunnar) Canida- Clark, Lexus Canida, Lauren Canida, Lezlie Canida, and Kenneth Canida.

Michael Edwin O’Bryant, 58, of Columbus, MS, passed away Monday, October 30, 2023, at his residence.

Visitation will be Friday, November 3, 2023, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral Service will be Friday, November 3, 2023, at 11:00 AM  at Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, MS.

Mr. O’Bryant was born on February 25, 1965, in Minot, North Dakota. He worked many years at Valero in instrumentation. He is preceded in death by his mom- Margaret Hill O’Bryant.

Mr. O’Bryant is survived by his wife- Lana Camp O’Bryant; parent- David O’Bryant, O’Bryant; two children- Zachary O’Bryant, and Jacob O’Bryant; two sisters- Patricia Jones (John), Debbie Hunt (Kenny), and two brothers- David O’Bryant (Rhonda), and Scott O’Bryant (Christy), three grandchildren- Sullivan O’Bryant, Jackson O’Bryant, and Ireland O’Bryant.

Christopher “Clay” Taylor, 16 years old, passed away from complications of Hunters Syndrome on October 27, 2023 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, MS.

The visitation will be Monday, October 30, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Columbus, MS.  The Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 PM at the church with Bro. Steve Lammons and Bro. Ty Danielson officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing.

Clay was born on October 16, 2007 to Christopher Wayne and Amanda Ruffin Taylor. He enjoyed watching football games, spending time with his family and friends, and being in the outdoors. Clay also spent time participating in events with Golden Triangle Outdoors. Golden Triangle Outdoors was the organization that sparked Clay’s love for Challenger Ball, which gave him the opportunity to play baseball and an opportunity to play on Dudy Noble field with the Mississippi State Baseball players last fall. This organization granted Clay with special friendships, and so did Pediatrust, as he was their first client. Clay never met a stranger and loved his people, especially his sister. He was known for his infectious smile and pretty, blue eyes. He never let a struggle defeat him and his personality always stayed true.

In addition to his parents, Clay is survived by his sister, Madison Taylor; grandparents, Jimmy and Jane Ruffin, Debbie and Larry Taylor; uncles, Jason (Charlsey) Ruffin, Erik (Amber) Ruffin, Greg Culpepper, and Steven Culpepper; cousins, Cole Ruffin, Justin Ruffin, Emma Ruffin, Maddox Ruffin; great grandfather, Wayne Taylor; and great grandmother, Betty Shumaker.  He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Gayle Culpepper, and his uncle Nick Taylor.

Pallbearers will be Jason Ruffin, Erik Ruffin, Cole Ruffin, Justin Ruffin, Maddox Ruffin, and Brady Stewart. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lamar Harper, Mark Rixie, Dr. Ski, and the District 3 Volunteer Fire Department.

Billy Darryl Lopoka Livingston

On October 12, 2023, Billy Darryl Lopoka Livingston of Columbus, MS, passed away after a short illness.

He was born at Ft. Rucker, AL, on May 12, 1965, to the late Billy W. Livingston and Gwendolyn G. Livingston of Columbus, MS. A service for family and friends will be held Sunday, October 29, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Furnace Hill Chapel located at 128 Furnace Hill Road in Vernon, AL.

Darryl was a general contractor and spent his early career as a chef and radio DJ “Crazy Bob Kasey.” He was an excellent cook and enjoyed sharing dishes with friends. He adored his dog Molly, and loved spending time with friends and family. Darryl devoted the last few years of his life helping and inspiring others as they walked the road to recovery. He was considered by one friend as an “icon” for recovery. His belief in Jesus and his selfless, caring, and thoughtful ways helped so many in their times of need.

Darryl was predeceased by his father in 2016. He is survived by his mother Gwendolyn Livingston, son Kasey (Heather), daughter Kaleigh (Kelby) and three grandchildren, Natalie and Brooks Livingston and Wyatt Wall. He is also survived by his brothers Dwayne Livingston and David (Laura) Livingston, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Laura Mitchell Thomas, affectionately known to many as Nanny, passed away October 23, 2023, at the young age of 74. Nanny was born August 13, 1949, to Margaret Mills Mitchell and the late Rev. J.C. Mitchell.

Nanny was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church for 43 years where she was also a member of the choir and spent most of her time active in church, helping with things like Vacation Bible School, GA’s, and Sunday School. She loved to travel and go on adventures with her college friends, to sew, to play hymns on the piano, and to spend time in the church and with her family and friends. She was gracious and kind, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed one. She spent joyous days with her two great-grandchildren, who kept her young. Piper loves her Nanny, and Nanny loved Piper. But above all, Nanny loved Jesus and stayed strong in her faith, always sharing with others when given the opportunity.

In her own words, “On a Sunday night during revival service, I felt the Holy Spirit strongly tugging my 8 ½ year old heart. At that moment, I knew I needed Jesus. I actually think I did that when I felt/heard him speaking to me, and I started walking toward the revival preacher. That was when I said yes. That was 65 years ago. I was baptized the following Sunday on March 30 by my daddy. That was such a special time for me. As I started up the steps out of the water, my daddy leaned over and kissed me on top of the head.”

Nanny was born in Poplarville, MS, and raised in Saltillo, MS. In her senior year of high school, her and her family moved to Pontotoc, MS, where she graduated from Pontotoc High School. She went on to get her Bachelor’s degree in Biology, with a minor in French, at William Carey University in Hattiesburg, MS, and also received her Teaching Certification from Delta State. She used that degree for many years as a Medical Technologist at Columbus Pathology Lab, Hemotology/Oncology, and Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Nanny and her former husband and lifelong friend, Dan Webb, had two daughters before Nanny remarried Harold Thomas in 1985, and they spent many happy years together before he passed away in February 2007. She is survived by her mother – Margaret Mills Mitchell, Lucedale, MS; daughters – Dana (Randy) Jones, Pontotoc, MS;  Kimberly Conn, Columbus, MS; her grandchildren – Dalton Capps, Flowood, MS; Madison Aycock, Columbus, MS; Jillian Dutcher, Starkville, MS; Mollie Conn, Maggie Conn, and Mills Conn; her great-grandchildren – Piper Jane Aycock and John Russel Barrett all from COlumbus, MS; her siblings – Marcia Mitchell, Phoenix, AZ; Ralph (Pat) Mitchell, Ponototoc, MS; and Dr. Tommy (Andrea) Mitchell, Lucedale, MS.

Pallbearers will be Dalton Capps, Randy Jones, Drew Mitchell, Presley Langford, Robert Mitchell,Phillip Mitchell, James Fults, and Rob Hunt.

Paige McAllister, 54, of Hamilton, MS passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her family.

Visitation will be Monday, October 23, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Paige graduated from Vernon High School in 1986. She worked in medical clinics most of her adult life and was employed with Allegro Family Clinic until her death. Paige spent most of her time on this earth being a devoted Christian, devoted wife to Joe “Bubba” McAllister, a loving mom, grandmother, sister, aunt and an amazing friend. She was everyone’s friend and made everyone happy. Paige loved spending time with her family and friends. The world was a better place with her in it and heaven is very fortunate to have gained such an angel to sing in the heavenly choir.

Paige is survived by her parents- Ray and Judy Oglesby; grandmother- Frances Garnett; husband- Joe “Bubba” McAllister; sons- Matthew Barnes and Trey McAllister; daughter- Kasey (Willie) Bowling; sister- Angie Stockman; brother- Swane “Bubba” Angle; grandson- Will Bowling; granddaughter- Mahayla Bowling; special nieces- Callie Johnston, Lexie Angle, Brodie Angle, Nikki Hanna and Chasity Sullivan- who loved her dearly; and her “ride or die best friend”- Jennifer Tilley also known as Louise of Thelma and Louise and we all know who Louise is; and her sweet companion- Izzy.

David Earl Shields, 65, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023 in Macon, GA.

Mr. Shields was born on March 7, 1958 in Memphis, TN to the late Fred Warren and Betty Joyce Shields.  He retired in 2000 after working 21 years as an aircraft electrician for Boeing.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother – Jimmy Warren Shields; and sister – Vicki Diane Shields.

Mr. Shields is survived by his sons – John David (Stephanie) Shields, Richard Jason (Valerie) Strom, and Daniel Shields; 10 grandchildren – Kirstyn Arianna, Kaelyn Victoria, Karleigh Marie, John Nolan, Ashley Marga-Rebecca, Angel Louis, Sara Joann, Paisley Brianne, Makayla Elizabeth Joyce, and Daniel Joseph; 3 great grandchildren – Elijah, Atlas, and Azure; and brother – Richard Alan Shields.

Ms. Carpenter was born on March 31, 1955, in West Point, MS to the late Mildred Ruth Moore Carpenter and LaFrinia Fain Carpenter. Ms. Carpenter was a switchboard operator for many years. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother- Sandy Carpenter.

Ms. Carpenter is survived by her Sisters- Cheryl (Casey) Carpenter Bush, Cathy Carpenter Moss, and Pam Carpenter Williams; Son- Britt (Amy) Glenn; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; nephews- Leif Carpenter, Ryan Bush, Trey Williams, Justin Moss; nieces- Amber Bush Hall and Jana Moss.

Harolyn Joyce Quick, 81, of Columbus, MS, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at her residence.

 Known as “Hallie” by all her friends and family, she lit up every room she walked into with laughter.

Hallie was born July 18, 1942, in West Point, MS to the late Earlene Griffin Smith and Harold “Slim” Smith. She graduated with the Class of 1960 and was voted “Class Clown” of the Senior Class at New Hope High School. Hallie worked as. secretary for many years at Dresser Atlas but spent the majority of her time on earth being a home maker, devoted wife, quirky and loving mom, overworked grandmother, and an amazing friend.

Hallie was everyone’s best friend. She was the person you could count on for advice anytime day or night. She made everyone happy when they had the privilege to spend time with her. The world was a better place with her in it and Heaven is lucky to have gained such an angel.

Hallie was married to David Quick for 60 beautiful years. He was her everything until her last breath. They raised a beautiful family together, 3 sons, 3 daughters, 14 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

Hallie is survived by her husband of 60 years- David Quick, Sr.; sons- David Quick, Jr., Robert Quick, and Steven Quick; daughters- Pam Guyton, Amy (Brian) Albritton, and Pennye (Derek) Hudson; 14 Grandchildren; 3 Great Grandchildren; and sister- Faye (Ted) Conn; her lifelong best friend, Sharon “Sport” Chaney, and 1 bonus daughter, Holly Atkins Rogers.

Pallbearers are David Quick, Sr., David Quick, Jr., Robert Quick, Steven Quick, Brian Allbritton, Derek Hudson, Trey Guyton, & Griffin Guyton.

Lt. Col. Robert T. “Bob” Green, age 90, Retired USAF, took his final flight on October 7, 2023.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 pm Friday, October 13, 2023, at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge, TN. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Andy Tentoni and Faith Lodge officiating.

Interment and military honors will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Piney Grove Cemetery in Steens, MS. Lowndes Funeral Home is directing.

He lived a full, 90-year life starting in Detroit, Michigan. As a young child, Bob’s parents moved to Columbus, Mississippi. He graduated from Lee High School and Mississippi State College where he was a member of the ROTC and earned an accounting degree. Bob served in the USAF as a navigator on SAC B-52’s & later for the 134^th refueling group in the ANG, accumulating 21 service years. He owned his own CPA accounting firm, working for over 30 years in Oak Ridge, TN. After his second retirement, Bob relocated to Seymour, TN.  He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was a member of Faith Lodge #756 F&AM, Oak Ridge Bodies of the York Rite & the Shriners Kerbela Temple, where he was a past potentate. In his last years, Bob reveled in philanthropic giving, all while fighting a 25-year battle with prostate cancer.

Bob was preceded in death by parents, Durwood G. & Louella R. Green; wife, Patricia C Green; daughters, Nancy L. Green & Abby G. Glover; granddaughter, Dawn Marie Riggs; & great-granddaughter, Haley Kate Green. Survivors include daughter, Melinda York of Charleston, SC; son, Robert T. Green, Jr (Lisa) of Oak Ridge, TN; son-in-law, Walter Glover of Lancing, TN; grandchildren, Ashley Rose Martin, Robert Austin Green (Amber), Emily Lynn Green & Amanda Van Norstran; special friends, Mike & Cathy Dennis, Greg & MaryAnn Lach, & Ron & Debbie Moody.

Dorothy Eugenia Kemp, 86, of Columbus, MS passed away on October 7, 2023 at Trinity Health Care, Columbus, MS.

Ms. Kemp was born October 31, 1936 in Lewisburg, MS to the late John J. and Maggie Sneed Johnson.  She received her nursing degree from Rio Hondo College.  She retired from nursing after working over 20 years at Mercy Hospital.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters – Jessie Boutin and Jackie Harwell.  She is survived by her children – Katherine Velez and Sean Kemp; grandchildren – Shelby Kemp, D.J. Velez, Rachal Velez, Sydney Smith, and Spencer Kemp; and great grandchildren – Korbin Smith, Kolby Smith, David Velez III, Henry Velez, and Ethan Velez.

Stephen C. Delk

Stephen C. Delk, 72 of Columbus, MS passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. Delk was born May 3, 1951, to the late Avery Delk and Martha Adele Butler Atkins in Aberdeen, MS.  He graduated from New Hope High School and attended Mississippi State University.  Mr. Delk was a veteran of the United States Navy.  He retired in 2018 from Adventurebuilt Hat Company where he was employed as a Millinery – Hatmaker for 13 years.  He made the hat worn by Harrison Ford in the 2008 movie Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.  He enjoyed making hats, listening to music, playing guitar, reading, and history.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Delk was preceded in death by his brother – Billy Wayne Atkins, and brother-in-law – Kenneth Cox.

Mr. Delk is survived by his wife 14 years – Kay Delk; daughters – Kristin (Johnny) Melcher and Ashley Delk; grandchildren – Austin (Shae) Melcher, Sydney (Kyle) Linton, Samuel Melcher, Zachary Melcher, Ruby Lowe, and Link Lowe; brothers – Bruce (Beverly) Delk and Glenn (Betty) Delk; sister – Beverly Cox and sister-in-law – Maggie Atkins.

Mr. Haley was a Retired Chief Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force.  He was preceded in death by his parents – Ashby Haley and Nettie Bradley Haley.

Mr. Haley is survived by his loving wife of 60 years – Christine Burrows Haley; daughter – Julia (John) Riley; son – Edward (Heidi) Haley; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren;  and a host of numerous other family members and friends.

Freddie Jones

Freddie Jones, 77 of Columbus, MS, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at VA Hospital in Decatur, Georgia.

Freddie Howard Jones, 77, was born on November 26, 1945 in Columbus, MS to Sallie Mae Jones and William Lafayette Swoope.

Freddie, affectionately known as “Ten” confessed his belief in Christ at an early age and became a member of Canaan Baptist Church where he served on the deacon board, taught bible school, sang in the Male choir and served as President of the Brotherhood.

He was educated in the Columbus Municipal School district and was a 1965 graduate of R.E. Hunt High School.  He also attended Mississippi State University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing and Master’s Degree in Education.  Freddie Jones served in the U.S. Marine Corps where he earned the National Defense Service, Vietnam Campaign and Vietnam Service Medals.

Freddie Jones’ love of education and entrepreneurship was displayed throughout his life and career paths as a teacher at Caldwell High School and Founder of Jones & Daughters Enterprise, LLC.

Freddie Jones loved spending time with his family and he served as the Founder and President of the annual Jones Family Reunion.

Deacon Freddie Jones transitioned into eternal rest on October 1st, 2023 in Decatur, GA.  He is preceded in death by his mother, Sallie Mae Jones, father William Lafayette Swoope, sister Annie Louis Petty, brother Willie Lee Jones, sister Daisy Jones, sister Dorothy Jones, brother John Wesley Jones and sister Catherine Wilson.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his beautiful daughters, Tammy Stevenson (Donald), Mesina Jones-Alvarez and Freda Jones-Stewart (Andrew), grandsons Quinton Bell, Tyler Stevenson, Taylon Stevenson, Alvin Henry, Zachary Bolden and Jackson Stewart, granddaughters Ashley Henry and Sydney Stewart and sisters Helen Karriem, Connie Brooks and Laura Chalmers. Great-Grandchildren – Skyler Bell and Kayden Bell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Keith C. Sanders, 79 of Columbus, MS, passed away Monday, October 2, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. Sanders was born September 28, 1944, in Fernbank, Alabama, to the late Renzo Sanders and Celia Gilliam Sanders. Mr. Sanders was an Army Veteran and served in Vietnam.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Sanders loved to garden. He had gardens in the Spring and Fall every year. Mr. Sanders was always a hard worker. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sanders is preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Sanders is survived by his wife- Margaret Ann Sanders; daughters- Rená (Keith) Coleman, Lynn Sanders, and Kathy (Jeremy) Dunn; grandchildren- Lainey Goodin, McKenzie Allen, and Travis Allen; great-grandchildren- Everleigh Jones, and Weston Allen; sisters- Cleo Spalding, Detrice Callender, Mavis Wheeler, and brother James E. Sanders.

Pallbearers will be Marty Pennington, Corey Hall, Chris Spalding, Ty Wyckoff, Travis Allen, and Lad Coleman.
