COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Americans are living longer.

In challenging economic times, there is the need for more diversified home health care services.

Convenience and peace of mind are just two of the benefits of modern,in-home health care.

As Nurse Practitioner Mamie Kosco enters the home of independent living resident Honey Johnston for a regular visit, Johnston can’t help but notice what was old has become new again.

“My grandfather was a physician and I remember I was raised by my grandparents and he was the local physician. And this was in the day when all you had was home house calls,” said Honey Johnston, Columbus.

This specialized medical care service works in collaboration with a physician, nurse practitioner, insurance company, and even a dietician.

These angels of mercy, dropping by the home, work in conjunction with other home health agencies and hospices.

It’s not just the elderly who benefit.

Patients who are homebound, and have limited mobility or lack transportation are also helped.

“Now, as I reach a point where my physician will tell me I no longer should drive,” said Johnston.

“Its beneficial for us to come into their home and treat them if needed. If it is an acute problem, educate them on their chronic illness. Help them with their medications and educate them on those as well,” said Mamie Kosco, Family Nurse Practitioner.

For Honey Johnston, getting older means having to deal with more concerns.

And at this stage of her life, the sweet little lady needs to experience  care that is customized for her.

“It relieves your mind, it gives you a peace at a time when you really need it. I think it, how much better can you get than that,” said Johnston.
