NTSB Spokesperson Continues Investigating Deadly Plane Crash
TUSCALOOSA CO., AL (WCBI) – Investigators are still trying to determine what caused Sunday’s deadly plane crash.
The crash that took the lives of six Mississippi residents happened late Sunday morning near the Tuscaloosa Regional Airport. Sheriff Ron Abernathy called the incident tragic, adding that the plane was very close to the runway when it went down and caught fire.
While the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is involved in the investigation, the NTSB has taken the lead.
NTSB Spokeswoman Heidi Kemner says they’re still investigating the cause of the plane crash, which includes looking into the pilot’s credentials.
Kemner also says they hope to have the rubble cleared soon.
“We have found the pilot’s log book but we are still searching for the maintenance records. Once we find both of those and put them together, we will document them and use that during the course of the investigation,” says Kemner.
Kemner added that the makers of the plane and the engine arrived on site today.
She plans to do a thorough tour of the crash site tomorrow.
A preliminary report is expected within 10 days.
