OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI Sports) – Noxubee County has accomplished something that few high school football teams have: back-to-back state championships.
The Tigers tore apart St. Stanislaus 44-23 Saturday to capture the 4A state football title for the second-straight season under head coach Tyrone Shorter. It’s the fourth overall state football championship for the school.
Noxubee County (12-4) led 25-0 at halftime at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in a rematch of last year’s 4A title game, holding St. Stanislaus (11-4) to -43 yards rushing during the first two quarters.
The Tigers’ senior quarterback Timorrius Conner was 18-of-26 passing for 365 yards and threw for four touchdowns. Senior Ladaveon Smith and junior Kymbotric Mason each scored two touchdowns. Four-star recruit and senior defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons finished with three-and-a-half sacks and added a rushing touchdown.
