PICKENS COUNTY, Ala. (WCBI) – Two men who set a string of church fires in West Alabama more than eight years ago will not be let out of jail anytime soon despite one judge’s order of an early release.

Matthew Cloyd and Benjamin Nathan Moseley are both serving two year sentences for arson of many churches charges in several counties, one of which is the Dancer Baptist Church in Pickens County.

Bibb County Circuit Court Judge Marvin Wiggins’ ruling to reduce their sentences to time served will not not stand because judges in the other counties have rejected the inmates’ plea for an early release.

Mosely and Cloyd set fire to nine rural churches in February of 2006.

They were arrested later that month and pleaded guilty to state and federal charges.
