No bond for man charged with shooting 2 Mississippi officers
CANTON, Miss. (AP) – A Mississippi judge has denied bond for a man accused of using an automatic rifle to shoot deputies as they tried to arrest him on a kidnapping charge.
News outlets report Edgar Egbert remains jailed after appearing Wednesday before Madison County Circuit Judge John Emfinger.
Madison County deputy Brad Sullivan was shot in the head Sept. 5 and remains hospitalized. Another deputy was shot in the arm; his name hasn’t been released.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation’s Troy Travis testified Wednesday that Egbert kidnapped a man he thought was involved with his wife, took him home, chained him to a bed and contacted his wife on Facebook. The wife called deputies.
Travis testified that Egbert fired 89 rounds from a fully automatic rifle “with the intent to kill law enforcement.”
