NMMC Hosts Visitors For ‘Safety Fair’

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Safety is always on the minds of medical professionals and today North Mississippi Medical Center hosted an event encouraging the public to put safety first and avoid trips to the hospital.

This week is “National Patient Safety Week” and NMMC has held seminars and other events for its employees.

Today,  a safety fair for visitors took place in the hospital’s main lobby.  Representatives from the Tupelo Fire Department, Lee County Sheriff’s Department,  athletic trainers and other agencies were on hand.

It’s a way to educate the public about simple steps everyone can take to avoid injuries.

“We hope our visitors are able to go out in the community and make sure they are safe in the community and prevent hospitalizations, we not only want to be safe in the hospital but we want to reach out the community to prevent people from having to come to the hospital,” said Rhea Broome, of NMMC.

Recently, NMMC Tupelo earned the nation’s top distinction for patient safety with an “A” grade from Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades.
