MILLPORT, Ala. (WCBI) – A Millport man keeps his District seven seat on the Alabama state board of education.

Jeff Newman beat challenger Jim Bonner with 64 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s Republican primary runoff.

No Democrat qualified to run for the position.

This will be Newman’s second term.

He is the board’s vice president.

Newman retired as superintendent of Lamar County Schools before being elected to the state board.
