New Lowndes Recreation Director has hopes of expanding Parks and Rec

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The new Lowndes Recreation Director has hopes of expanding Parks and Rec.
Lowndes County recently gained a new recreation director in Jennifer Claybrook.
She said she knows what it takes to be a champion.
The new Lowndes County Recreation Director spent years on the softball field as a college coach.
Most recently, Claybrook was director of athletics and campus recreation at MUW. She said that position taught her a lot about what could be done in the community.
“It showed me that we could do a lot of different things in a lot of different ways and reach out to our community, we have a wealth of knowledge in this community,” Claybrook said.
Just days into her new role, Claybrook already has hopes of expanding the recreation department to meet the needs of people who live and play in the community.
“Evaluating all of our offerings so that we can reach more people, we can be more effective, and that they really just enjoy coming to the recreation centers, community centers, and everything,” Claybrook said.
She said she has been meeting with the Board of Supervisors and will be using an economic impact survey to decide what the community wants and needs.
“Before I do anything, I want to figure out what our needs are, how can we best serve our community, how can we get there and what can we do that others can’t, won’t, or don’t. We want to serve the community so if it is not anything they are interested in there’s no sense in having,” Claybrook said.
Claybrook also previously held the position of athletic director at LaGrange College.
