New Hope Names Pickle As Next Head Football Coach
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI Sports) – WCBI has confirmed that New Hope has hired Kris Pickle Friday as its new head football coach.
Pickle was most recently the head coach at Morton high school. He has been the offensive coordinator at Northeast Jones and locally at Aberdeen.
He says he’s looking forward to joining the football family at New Hope.
“The overall atmosphere, the community, the overall camaraderie of the whole town,” Pickle said, “it makes me really excited about being here.”
The Trojans went 4-7 and did not make the playoffs in 2013.
“We’re going to prepare to compete for a district championship,” Pickle said. “We’re going to play an exciting brand of football. We’ll try to throw it around a little bit and play with tempo.”
The Trojans’ quarterback in 2013, Brady Davis, left the school earlier this year and will play at Starkville High School this season.
Many players formally protested former head coach Shawn Gregory’s departure by skipping class earlier this year. With regards to the issues surrounding Gregory’s departure, Pickle says it’s in the past.
“At the end of the day we’re all going towards the same goal,” Pickle said. “It’s water under the bridge.”
Gregory accepted the offensive coordinator position at Mississippi Valley State last week.
