New Bond Set After Man Attempts Second Prison Escape

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – $30 million. That’s the newest bond for a Starkville man who continues to add charges to an original kidnapping arrest.

Additional bond was set this afternoon for John B. Arnold Jr.

The judge has set bond at $10 million per count, Attempting to Escape and Assault on a Corrections Officer.

The hearing took place in the secure wing of the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.

Arnold was moved to Lowndes County following a second escape attempt yesterday evening, February 27.

Deputies placed him in an isolated area in the Oktibbeha County Jail after Arnold attacked a jailer and tried to escape from the jail yard.

That’s when Lt. Brett Watson says Arnold attempted to go through the ceiling of his cell by removing an air vent.

Arnold was charged with Kidnapping last week when he reportedly tried to take a child from Sudduth Elementary, and from Ward Stewart.

His bond was revoked Friday when he apparently cut off a monitoring device, initiating a manhunt.

Oktibbeha County deputies arrested Arnold for violating his bond.

He has been in the Oktibbeha County jail until yesterday’s escape attempts.

Arnold is expected to remain in the secure unit at Lowndes County.
