NEMCC named one of best colleges in nation for online learning

BOONEVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – A community college in the area was named one of the top colleges in the nation for online education.

Onlinecolleges.com ranked Northeast Mississippi Community College as the second best college in the nation for its online education options.

The study focused on areas such as, affordability, program availability, and the retention and completion rate of students.

Officials said it’s important to offer options for students who may not be able to attend classes on campus because of work or family obligations.

“This allows them to continue their education and be able to become a productive citizen in society, and this not only enables them but enables Northeast and the state of Mississippi in moving it forward,” said NEMCC President Ricky Ford.

There are about 1,500 community colleges across the nation.

Northeast Mississippi Community College introduced its iPad initiative last year.

Under that program, every student received an iPad and had access to textbooks and other resources without the expense of traditional books.
