Murder Charge Officially Dropped
WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – A judge signs the order officially dropping the capital murder charge against a West Point woman.
Brittania Smith was charged in 2014 after the death of her son, Brinston Smith.
Test results from the state crime lab show the infant died from codeine.
Further analysis by the district attorney’s office showed the child was given about a teaspoon of the cough syrup.
The judge signed the order on Monday.
While the murder charge was dropped, investigators could send the case back to the grand jury to consider for other criminal charges.
