Multiple Arrests In Oxford This Weekend

OXFORD, Miss. (PRESS RELEASE)- On September 9, officers with the Oxford Police Department stopped a black Dodge Charger for no headlights leaving the square. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle due to the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Officers located a stolen pistol in the driver’s side door and the driver who was identified as Zephen Francis (23 of Oxford) was taken into custody for possession of a stolen firearm. Mr. Francis was given a $2,500.00 bond. The firearm was stolen in a burglary from Johnson Avenue a few weeks ago.

On September 9, Jacquavis Williams (20 of Plantersville, MS.) was arrested for grand larceny and four counts of auto burglary. We received a report about a car being stolen from a residence on Old Taylor road. The police department received four reports of auto burglaries in the same area that the car was stolen. Williams was stopped in Plantersville on Saturday while driving the stolen car. A search was conducted and property from the auto burglaries was found inside the stolen car. He was given a bond of $25,000.

On September 9, officers responded to S. 18th St. for a report of an aggravated domestic violence. Upon arrival officers found that Marshall Peeples (21 of Pontotoc) had strangled his girlfriend. The victim was asleep when she woke up with him on top of her strangling her. After the assault Peeples fled the house and was located at another residence. He was arrested and transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center. Peeples was charged with Aggravated Domestic Violence and his bond was set at $30,000.00.
