MSU Softball Cruises to Victory Behind 3 Homers
IRONDALE, Ala. (WCBI/MSU Athletics) – Three home runs helped Mississippi State (30-16) cruise to an 8-1 victory Monday night against Middle Tennessee State (5-43) at Shea Brothers Softball Complex in Irondale, Ala. Monday’s victory gave MSU its 36th win in its past 43 games against non-conference opponents (.837).
State improved to 4-1 all-time against the Blue Raiders, thanks to round trippers by redshirt sophomores Briana Bell and Julia Echols, as well as junior Logan Foulks. The junior duo of Heidi Shape (1-for-3) and Sam Lenahan (0-for-2, two walks, two runs) also recorded RBIs for the Maroon and White.

The southpaw struck out one and gave up one run on two hits and a walk. Freshman Jacey Punches tossed 2.0 shutout innings and fanned two batters, while junior Shana Sherrod finished the game with a scoreless seventh.
After an RBI single by Lenahan, Foulks followed it up in the first frame with a no-doubter over the wall in left for her team-leading 12th home run of the season. State took a 3-0 lead into the third when Shape drove in Lenahan with a double off the wall in right.
The Blue Raiders scored its only run in the fourth, but MSU responded with the final four runs of the game in the fifth. Bell sent a line drive to straightaway center for her second homer in as many days, driving in three. Echols followed it up with a solo shot off the scoreboard in right, giving MSU back-to-back jacks.
