STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI Sports/MSU Athletics) – On a cool September Saturday night, Mississippi State’s offense was hot, racking up 551 yards on the way to a 62-7 victory over Troy.
The Bulldogs, now 2-2 overall, were led by sophomore quarterback Dak Prescott, who had four total touchdowns. In fact, both he and junior receiver Jameon Lewis scored three ways each – rushing, passing and receiving; they are the only two players in the nation to do that this season.
The Trojans were held to only 186 total yards, 47 rushing and 139 passing.
Junior linebacker Matt Wells led Geoff Collins’ defense with five tackles, including one sack and 1.5 tackles for loss.
MSU is off next week and will continue its homestand the following Saturday (Oct. 5) by hosting SEC West rival LSU. Kickoff time for that contest will be announced this Monday by the Southeastern Conference.
