MSU Prepares For South Carolina
STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI Sports) – Mississippi State head football coach Dan Mullen has spoken the past few days about how inconsistent his team played Thursday in its win over Kentucky. There were both great moments, and poor performances.
Going into Saturday’s game against #14 South Carolina, he says there are some health issues with eight players out and many who will be limited in practice but should be able to play, including senior quarterback Tyler Russell.
The Gamecocks will be a tough road test for the Bulldogs.
“They’re a team now that, after they build that foundation, expects to compete for a championship year in and year out,” Mullen said. “They have superstar players step up in key moments.”
Mullen says that Steve Spurrier’s team has threats all over the field, including national player of the week quarterback Connor Shaw, and that defensively the Bulldogs won’t try to key in on just one player.
“That’s what makes them a championship contender. They have a weapon at every position,” Mullen said. “If you want to stop one of them they have four other guys that will go beat you. You have to play good, sound defense across the board.”
The Bulldogs kickoff against the Gamecocks at 11:21 a.m. in Columbia, S.C. The game can be viewed on WCBI.
