MSU offers new student housing experience
STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – It was a grand celebration at Mississippi State during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday afternoon.
With a snip of the scissors, the doors to College View Apartments at MSU were opened to the public.
“This was the ribbon cutting for College View, our new 650-bed residential community for students,” said Dr. Regina Hyatt, Vice President of Student Affairs at Mississippi State University. “It also has 50,000 square feet of retail and we also completed a major expansion to our child development center as part of this project.”
“College View has studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and four-bedroom apartments,” said Christon Stafford, Community Manager at College View Apartments. “College View is something that students have never been offered before.”
The complex is the first and only one of its kind in the state.
The $67 million public-private partnership between MSU and Greystar Real Estate Partners is bringing off-campus style living, with on-campus convenience to MSU’s upperclassmen.
“They’re going to receive the best of both worlds as in they get to get the experience of being on campus, like you would in a residence hall and like they have for years, but you get the freedom of your own private apartment,” said Stafford.
“They have all of the amenities that come with apartment-style living, their own washers and dryers, their own kitchens, their own bedrooms and bathrooms,” described Dr. Hyatt.
“This is something that is going to completely transform our university’s campus, but I think it will also have a transformation effect on the entire city of Starkville,” said MSU President Dr. Mark Keenum.
Dr. Keenum said they wanted to give students a different type of living option than what they’re accustomed to, and he believes College View will do just that.
“Students are going to love this facility,” Dr. Keenum expressed. “We’re going to have great retail, restaurants and other retail outlets here to serve not only our students needs, but our community. We will have visitors from Starkville who will frequent this facility, I just couldn’t be more happier.”
The apartments are pet-friendly.
“There is a one time non-refundable $300 pet privilege fee,” said Stafford. “There is no monthly pet rent, and we allow pets up to 50 pounds, a few restricted breeds.”
The upperclassmen living in the apartments will only have to pay one flat fee each month.
“The prices range from $838 down to $539(a month), that includes everything,” Stafford explained. “Water, cable, internet, sewage, no caps on anything.”
Students can move in on August 11.
