MSU Narrowly Defeats Bowling Green
STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI Sports/MSU Athletics) – Mississippi State (3-3) escaped Saturday night with a close Homecoming win over Bowling Green (5-2), defeating the Falcons 21-20 at Davis Wade Stadium.
Penalties and mistakes made it a closer game than the Bulldogs would have liked, but 139 rushing yards and 75 passing by sophomore quarterback Dak Prescott (and two rushing touchdowns) helped the home team to victory.
Sophomore receiver Joe Morrow was the team’s leading receiver with four catches for 57 yards, while senior running back LaDarius Perkins was second only to Prescott with 83 yards rushing including one touchdown, a diving score on the opening drive of the evening.
MSU’s two other scores came on the ground as well with runs of 75 yards and 10 yards from Prescott, while senior Tyler Russell actually drew the start for MSU at quarterback, completing 12-of-14 passes for 102 yards.
Defensively, State was led with eight tackles each from Deontae Skinner and Benardrick McKinney.
Dan Mullen’s team is off next Saturday before hosting the Kentucky Wildcats in a Thursday night affair on October 24. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT and the game will be televised by ESPN.
